Review of Mount Jackson, Virginia

Backward city with no jobs
Star Rating - 12/28/2006
We have lived outside of Mt. Jackson for nearly 14 years at a nearby ski resort since I retired. The area is full of uneducated backhills type people with the major working force that includes housecleaners, unskilled labors, and firewood cutters. No technical jobs unless you are self employed as a consultant back to a company in Wash DC. Many people never finished high school. The area also has some retired people from Wash DC. Many of the locals and transplanted residents have serious drinking and driving problems. The area is controlled by 5 major families and if you are an educated outsider or foreigner as they calls us, jobs are not available. We will be listing our home in the spring to move to a place that has moved into the current century. Kids and grandchildren need jobs. Camoflauge clothing is the Shenandoah County standard dress for men and women. Many local people need teeth of any sort. Very few dentists in the area. Many of the inbred local women are usually 100 to 150 pounds over weight and have 4 to 6 dirty kids. They still fly the Conferate Flag on their shacks/houses they live in and have stickers of the flag on their beatup pick up trucksTheir trucks have names like Big Blue or Ridge Runner. We did not see all of this until we moved here. Moving to Shenandoah Valley was a biggg mistake.
